Examinations at Da Capo Academy
Da Capo Academy supports students through a wide range of music exams in Jersey and external academic examinations, helping learners of all ages to achieve recognised qualifications alongside their practical music-making. We act as an approved public examination venue and centre for leading examination boards, providing candidates with access to nationally and internationally recognised qualifications in a calm, professional and supportive environment.
Further information about syllabuses and assessment criteria can be found on the official websites of ABRSM, Trinity College London and Pearson.
ABRSM & Trinity College London
We are the Public Examination Centre for both ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and Trinity College London, two of the UK’s most established and widely respected music examination boards.
Through these partnerships, we support graded music examinations from beginner level through to advanced and diploma pathways, across instrumental, vocal and music theory disciplines. We also support candidates taking online music theory examinations, guiding students through preparation and providing appropriate facilities where required.
Our Principal, Claire Harvey, is an ABRSM examiner, bringing first-hand examining experience and professional insight to the preparation and support we offer students and candidates.
Pearson Examination Centre
Da Capo Academy is an accredited Pearson Examination Centre, allowing us to host a range of academic and vocational qualifications. This enables students and external candidates to access recognised qualifications locally, within a professional and well-organised examination environment.
Examination Formats We Support
- Face-to-face practical examinations with visiting examiners

GCSE & A Level Music
Alongside examination provision, Da Capo Academy offers structured GCSE and A Level Music courses for students wishing to pursue music as an academic subject. Both courses combine performance, composition and appraisal, allowing students to develop practical, creative and analytical skills in parallel.
GCSE Music provides a broad introduction to music from the 18th century to the present day, with a balanced emphasis on performing, composing and listening skills.
A Level Music builds on this foundation through extended performance, composition briefs and in-depth appraisal of set works across a range of styles and genres.
External Candidates
Da Capo Academy also provides support for external candidates, offering guidance, preparation and examination access for students studying independently or through other providers.
By hosting examinations locally and offering both taught courses and candidate support, Da Capo ensures accessible, high-quality pathways for students pursuing music and academic qualifications within a professional and reassuring setting.
