Conducting Course Finale with Robert Houlihan

Spring Into Conducting 2026 – A Week to Remember

What an extraordinary week we shared at Da Capo.

Our inaugural Spring Into Conducting course, led by the wonderful Robert Houlihan, brought together aspiring and developing conductors for an immersive residential experience here in Jersey.

We were particularly delighted to involve so many outstanding local musicians in our ensembles, who together provided a full orchestral experience for participants.

Their generosity, professionalism and musical responsiveness created an inspiring environment in which our conductors could truly develop.

Participants joined us from across the UK and as far afield as Hungary and Spain — making it a genuinely international week of music-making here on the island.

From first baton technique sessions to score preparation, aural development, chamber ensemble work and the final open rehearsal, the musical growth across the week was remarkable.

There was focus.

There was courage.

There was generosity in the room.

Watching participants progress from working with piano to confidently leading live ensembles was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

A heartfelt thank you to:

✨ Robert for his clarity, insight and generosity

✨ Our faculty and ensemble musicians

✨ Our participants for their dedication and openness

This may have been our first conducting course… but it certainly won’t be the last.

If you would be interested in future conducting opportunities at Da Capo, keep an eye on this space.
