We’re honoured to perform Derek Lawrence’s The Durrell Suite with the Jersey Chamber Orchestra at the Jersey Opera House—a meaningful tribute to Derek, a cherished friend and longtime supporter of Da Capo, who passed away suddenly this summer.
The concert will feature over 100 singers, including a visiting choir from Corfu, in collaboration with Music in Action and our own Chant’tie choir.
“Join Music in Action for a concert at the Jersey Opera House to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Gerald Durrell.
This historic animal themed show features favourite music from Flanders and Swan – The Hippopotamus and Gnu songs – alongside Swan Lake. A highlight is the specially commissioned ‘Durrell Suite’ performed by a choir with children from Jersey and Corfu where Gerald Durrell spent his childhood.
Local Jersey charity Music in Action is hosting this unique event to celebrate the legacy of one of the world’s most renowned conservationists. Funds raised from this event will support both the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and Music in Action’s Jersey Sings project to help children in schools.

The music is directed by world renowned conductor Robin Hollingworth and played by the Jersey Chamber Orchestra with choirs from Corfu, Janvrin, Victoria College and other schools.
VIP Ticket Option: £200 for Dinner and the Performance. This includes an a La Carte Dinner at the Grand Hotel either before or after the show.
As a charity bringing music to the island, ticket purchasers will be provided with free tickets to all Music in Action pre-concert talks in 2025-2026 (at all JCO concerts and in the Guitar Festival and Liberation Festival).”
